SUNRISE TO SUNSET

Halston really was the king of effortless dressing. He made it so simple for women: put on a dress and you're set. No complicated construction. No bells and whistles. The fabrics are always sensual against your body. It's no wonder that variations of caftans often appeared on Halston's runways. However, he took the essence of caftan casual and modified the silhouette to give a it more streamlined look. This silk charmeuse version is in the most vibrant tangerine with side slits, a sexy back and front plunge neckline, and with flattering under-the-bust seams that elongate the torso. This is a dress that's wonderful worn naked (i.e., sans bling) with a flat; or, I would love it with piles of eclectic jewelry. Maybe channel the amazing Millicent Rogers and wear some Native American jewels? Another inspiration is one of my favorite style icons of NYC, Iris Apfel, who always manages to find the most sublime ethnic jewelry that I swear must weigh a ton but never holds her back.

This Halston won't hold you back either. You may be covered up, but your style is completely liberated at the time.
