FABERGE

The Chanel pre-fall 2009 collection was titled Paris-Moscou and featured red lacquered bags reminiscent of Faberge eggs swinging from gilt chains. Flash back fifteen years, and Karl Lagerfeld was using Faberge eggs as inspiration in costume jewelry such as this gold gilt link necklace with mini scrolled eggs and interlocking signature Cs. Coco Chanel was no stranger to her love of all things Russian. In 1920, Chanel met Grand Duke Dimitri of Russia in Biarritz and the affair inspired Chanel to use Russian embroidery in her collections. In 1923, she made the traditional Russian peasant shirt called the rubashka totally fashionable. This Chanel necklace will help you tell a story when you get complimented on it. I've done a little of the background work for you already, but now when someone says "I love your Chanel necklace" you can teach them about the long connection between Russia and the House of Chanel. Besides Faberge eggs are ideal table decorations on New Year's Eve, so this necklace is extra appropriate to wear (around your neck) tonight whether your parties bring you to Moscow or Memphis.
